- In-person and remote teacher of beginner-level English classes for adult family shelter residents. Five 2-hour sessions per week. Student cohort largely comprises Haitian Creole speakers with some Spanish speakers.
- Transitioned from hybrid to all-remote instruction mid-program as students exited shelter housing.
- Prepare scaffolded lesson plans to develop English grammar capabilities and workforce readiness.
- Guide students in creating resumes.

Volunteer 1:1 Tutor
August 2022- Present
- Completed LVM’s 18-hour training program, then paired with a Venezuelan native whose goal is to attain US citizenship.
- Provided him more than 140 hours of dedicated, needs-based instruction to date (in-person and Zoom).
- He is achieving continued fluency improvements in reading and writing, as well as greater confidence in conversational English.
- As a result of his improved fluency, his company asked him to represent and demonstrate their product at a national trade show, for which he, with my guidance, created talking points.
- In recognition of our success, LVM leaders have invited us three times to speak about our experience to new-tutor classes.
International Institute of New England, Lowell MA
Volunteer In-Classroom Tutor/Teacher Assistant
September 2024 – Present
- In-person classroom volunteer for beginner-level new-arrival English class of approximately 25 students representing 11 nationalities and 12 native languages. Two 2-hour sessions per week.
- Assist teacher with lesson delivery and classroom management.
- Within each session, run a 1-hour breakout segment comprising 3-5 students. Report to teacher on group’s progress after each breakout.
